To Buy or to Rent? 3 Reasons Why It’s Better to Buy a Trailer for Moving
Do you have a need to move large items from place to place on a regular basis? If so, you likely need to make use of a trailer.
The question is: should you make use of a trailer rental or should you buy your own trailer? As far as we’re concerned, buying is the superior option. We’ll give you 3 reasons why below.
1. You’ll Always Have It at Your Disposal
Being able to rent a trailer is nice; however, it’s not always convenient. After all, you can’t just pack things into a rented trailer the moment you’re ready to. Instead, you have to sign paperwork for it, then pick it up, then bring it back to the area where it’s needed, then pack things inside of it.
To put it simply, this is a gigantic inconvenience. Sure, if you’re only going to use it once, it’s worthwhile. But if you’re going to be using it on a regular basis, it leaves you in a less-than-desirable situation at all times.
Buy your trailer permanently and you’ll always have it at your disposal. Then, you’ll be able to transport things on a whim whenever the mood (or necessity) strikes.
2. You’ll Have Total Control Over It
When renting a trailer, you are essentially at the whims of the company that rented it to you. They give you a time slot during which you can use the trailer, and if you don’t return the trailer within that time slot, you can be subject to a range of penalty fees.
This is where buying a trailer can be hugely beneficial. When you buy your trailer as opposed to renting it, you get total control over it. This way, you won’t have to worry about time slots or late return fees; it’s all yours all the time.
3. You’ll Save Money in the Long-run
One of the primary reasons that you might rent a trailer as opposed to buying one is that it costs less. Well, that’s true . . . initially. However, if you’re going to be using trailers on a recurring basis, it’s really no contest: in the long-run, purchased trailers end up being much cheaper than rented trailers.
You can buy a purchased trailer for a few thousand bucks and use it for the next 20 years. On the other hand, a rental trailer will cost a few hundred bucks every time you use it. If you use one regularly over the course of 20 years, you could end up spending tens of thousands of dollars on rentals.
Money put toward a purchased trailer gives you equity. Money put toward a rented trailer does not.
